Submissions

If you would like to submit content to this site, be it an article, review, or new jokes, please see the guidelines for submission below and then fill out the lovely form and you’re on your way.

Articles

Articles should be long enough to provide good content yet short enough to retain a reader’s attention. Many people surfing the net and reading articles do not have the same attention span of those reading the content in actual paper magazines. With this in mind, please try to keep the length of your essay under 500 words or two single spaced pages in a normal word processor.

All articles should provide new information, or a new approach to a common topic in classical music or violin playing in general. Off-topic articles will not necessarily be rejected if they are of high quality and offer good information to the reader. While there are no style requirements, the preferred style of writing would be informative with some humor. Sempre Violin is not striving to be Time Magazine or the Wall Street Journal. I have designed this website to be informative to students and professionals, as well as being fun to visit and read.

Please try to be specific when submitting your ideas for articles. Filling out the form below and then in the idea section writing “An article on how to play the violin” will not do. Remember there is a finite amount of space that the piece will fill, so again, be specific.

Reviews

Reviews of classical concerts, recordings, and writings will be an important addition to the site. Please follow the same length and style guidelines as above, and again, please be specific with your reviews.

You may be as harsh or as nice as you like in your commentary, but please follow the following guidelines. No profanity will be allowed at any time. Personal insults or attacks on the performers will not be tolerated. This includes comments about the appearance or weight of a performer, his or her ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation, and threats of violence or stalking of any kind. Also, just saying that the performance “sucked like a chest wound” is not good enough. Please be specific and include examples from the performance and from your own experience that back up your statements.

Please remember that children will be reading these as well as adults, so keep the subject matter to a PG rating.

General

All submissions should be thoroughly checked for spelling errors and grammar. Correcting obvious spelling and grammar mistakes in an article takes away from my already limited time to maintain the site, when I could be adding new content instead. All submissions will be sent via regular email to an address provided to you once your idea is approved. The article or review should be pasted as text in the email, NOT sent as an attachment. All attachments will be deleted prior to opening them.

If you have read the above and are ready to send me your wonderful idea, please fill out the form below and I’ll take a look. Everyone has an opportunity to add content to this site and make it a truly wonderful resource for all musicians.
